Unraid 7.3 Beta: Convert Your Server to Internal Boot

Unraid 7.3 Beta is here, and with it comes one of the most requested features yet: internal boot. No more relying solely on a USB flash drive to run your server.

In this video, we take an existing Unraid server that's already set up and running, upgrade it to 7.3, and convert it from flash boot to internal boot. We'll cover how to safely clear data off a pool drive using mover, convert that drive into a boot pool through the onboarding wizard, move your data back, and transfer your license from the flash drive to TPM so you can remove the USB entirely.

If you're setting up a brand new Unraid server from scratch, check out the companion video: https://youtu.be/NMHaMaa8iV0

This is beta software. Please test on non-production servers and report any bugs you find.

We kick things off with the new Unraid product portal, teases an upcoming local AI Uncast video, and reveals his new RTX 5090, which idles at just 7 watts. The community storage deep dive covers when to use XFS vs ZFS, why you should never format array drives as individual ZFS pools, and the one trap that can silently wipe data when adding an old drive. Then the Huntarr security incident gets a full breakdown, including how a simple curl command exposed every API key in your entire *arr stack, and how to use AI agents to audit open source code before running it on your server.
