Unraid 7.0.0-beta.4 Now Available

Note: This is BETA software. While we've made every effort to ensure data integrity, we strongly recommend using this version on test servers only. This release introduces substantial improvements across all subsystems, maintaining as much backward compatibility as possible.

Storage

Optional Unraid Array

• You can now set Unraid array slots to 'none,' allowing the array to start without any devices assigned.
• Recommended for all-SSD/NVMe servers: Use ZFS/BTRFS pools as Trim/Discard isn't supported on Unraid array devices.
• To remove an existing Unraid array, unassign all array slots on the Main page, then set Slots to 'none.'
• For new installs, the default is 'none' for Unraid array slots.

Secondary Storage Pool Support for Shares

• Shares can now utilize both primary and secondary storage pools, enabling mover to transfer files between pools.

ReiserFS Support Disabled

• The option to format devices with ReiserFS has been removed due to its planned deprecation from the Linux kernel. You can use mover to empty array disks before reformatting.

Using mover to Empty Array Disks

• Mover can now be used to empty an array disk. With the array started, run this at a web terminal:

bash mover start -e diskN |& logger & # where N is [1..28]

• The Mover scans each top-level directory (share) and transfers files one-by-one to other disks in the array, adhering to the usual configuration settings (include/exclude, split level, allocation method).
• Files are only moved within the unRAID array.

Predefined Shares Handling

• Docker and VM Managers use predefined shares like system, appdata, domains, and isos. Shares are automatically created based on available pools:
  • With 'cache' pool: Created on 'cache' as Primary.
  • Without 'cache' pool: Created on the first available pool alphabetically.
  • No pools: Created on the Unraid array as Primary.

ZFS Implementation

• Support for Hybrid ZFS pools (subpools) and recovery from multiple drive failures.
• Introduced LUKS encryption for ZFS pools and drives.
• Default profiles set for new ZFS pools/subpools.
• Option to upgrade ZFS pools via pool status. Note: older Unraid versions may not recognize upgraded pools.

Allocation Profiles for BTRFS, ZFS, and ZFS Subpools

• Allocation profiles are set based on the number of slots:
  • ZFS: Handles single, mirror, and RAID configurations.
  • BTRFS: Defaults to single or RAID1.
• Changing the filesystem type and slot management includes enhanced flexibility.
